Why Plaster Pools Are a Costly Headache

Traditional plaster is the industry default — but it comes with serious downsides for commercial pool operators that affect residents, guests, and your bottom line.

Pool steps and deck
Plaster pools typically need resurfacing every 10–15 years — an expensive, disruptive process.
🚫
6–8 Weeks of Downtime

Traditional replaster requires a 30-day cure period before the pool can even be filled — keeping your pool closed for up to 2 months. For HOAs, apartments, and hotels, that's a major disruption.

💸
Expensive Cure Process

Plaster must be kept wet during curing — requiring costly truckloads of water and intensive monitoring. Then a complicated "Hot Start" chemical treatment follows before swimmers can use the pool.

🔨
Cracks, Stains & Short Lifespan

Plaster stains easily, shrinks and cracks over time, and often needs complete replacement rather than patching. You're back to square one every 10–15 years.

🧪
Constant Chemistry Battles

Plaster is porous and pH-sensitive, requiring constant chemical balancing. Improper chemistry etches and damages the surface — an ongoing maintenance burden and expense.

Fiberglass Liner + Aquabright™ Coating

We apply a premium fiberglass liner followed by ecoFINISH's Aquabright™ thermoplastic coating — a modern, proven solution that dramatically reduces downtime and outperforms plaster in every way.

⏱️
Pool Open in ~2 Weeks

Aquabright™ cures in hours — not days or weeks. Fill your pool the same day or the very next day after application. No truck water. No waiting.

🔬
Non-Porous Thermoplastic Finish

The smooth, pH-neutral surface won't stain, etch, or require the complex chemistry that plaster demands. Maintaining water balance is dramatically simpler.

🎨
Uniform, Long-Lasting Color

Unlike plaster, Aquabright™ won't mottle, fade, or develop blotchy patches as it ages. The color stays consistent across the entire pool surface for years.

🛡️
Manufacturer Warranty Backed

Aquabright™ by ecoFINISH® is backed by a warranty that gives commercial property owners confidence in the long-term performance of their investment.

🧊
Slip-Resistant for High Traffic

Available with slip-resistant application on steps, benches, and zero-entry areas — critical for commercial pool liability and guest safety.

Built for Commercial Pool Operators

We understand that a closed pool means unhappy residents, lost bookings, and revenue you can't get back. Our process was designed around minimizing your downtime.

🏘️

HOA Communities

Community pools are a top amenity — and a major source of homeowner satisfaction. An extended closure triggers complaints, board pressure, and declining property values.

😤 "The pool has been closed for 2 months — residents are furious."
✅ Back open in 2 weeks. Residents happy. Board pleased.
🏢

Apartment Complexes

A pool is a premium amenity that justifies higher rents and fills vacancies. An 8-week closure can lead to lease non-renewals and prospective tenants choosing a competitor property.

😟 "We're losing tenants because the pool has been down all summer."
✅ Minimal downtime protects your occupancy rates and rent premiums.
🏨

Hotels & Resorts

For hotels, a closed pool means cancelled bookings, negative reviews, and direct revenue loss — especially during peak season. Every week the pool is closed costs you money.

💸 "We turned away $40K in bookings while the pool was down."
✅ Plan renovations in fall/winter. Open fresh for peak season.

Common Questions

Everything property managers, HOA boards, and hotel operators want to know before getting started.

How is Aquabright™ different from replastering?
Aquabright™ is a thermoplastic polymer coating applied over the existing pool surface. Unlike plaster, it cures in hours (not 30 days), is pH neutral and non-porous, won't stain or crack, and requires far simpler water chemistry maintenance. The total project downtime is approximately 2 weeks vs. 6–8 weeks for traditional replaster.
How long will the Aquabright™ finish last?
Aquabright™ is significantly more durable than traditional plaster. The finish is backed by an ecoFINISH® manufacturer warranty. With proper water chemistry maintenance, it is designed to outlast plaster by many years.
Can you apply Aquabright™ over our existing plaster?
Yes — in most cases Aquabright™ can be applied directly over existing concrete or plaster surfaces after proper preparation. We will assess your specific pool during the consultation and let you know if any repairs are needed first.
What is the actual downtime during the project?
Total downtime is typically 10–14 days, covering pool draining, surface preparation, crack repairs if needed, fiberglass and Aquabright™ application, and refilling. Once the application is complete, the pool can be filled immediately — there is no 30-day cure period.
Do you handle permits and compliance for commercial pools?
Yes. We work with licensed, insured contractors familiar with commercial pool codes and can advise on permit requirements. We coordinate the full scope of work so you don't have to manage multiple contractors.
When is the best time to schedule the renovation?
Summer is the ideal time to plan and secure your spot on our schedule. We install primarily in fall and winter when pools see reduced usage — minimizing the impact on your residents, tenants, and guests. Contact us now to plan ahead and avoid spring rush.
Do you also refinish pool decks and do landscaping?
Yes! We offer complete pool area transformations — including pool deck resurfacing, coping, tile work, and landscape upgrades. Many of our clients take the opportunity to renovate the entire pool area while the pool is already closed.
